City of Lancaster's Use of Manheim Township Fire Station

As some of our residents may have heard, the Board of Commissioners has approved an arrangement with the City of Lancaster to allow the City Fire Department shared use of the MTFR-Southern Manheim Township fire station for the duration of their construction of a new building on East King Street in  the City.  The City will only pay a small monthly stipend towards the operating expenses of the building, no rent.

This example of inter-municipal assistance and neighborliness has come about as an outgrowth of meetings over the last year between City and MT fire staffs working to improve relationships and efficiency in addressing public  safety issues.  After becoming aware of the impending demolition of the City’s fire station and their problem with what to do with their existing equipment and staff, MT Fire Chief Rick Kane reached out to the Board of Commissioners and suggested this solution, the Board of Commissioners told Rick to work out an arrangement with the City and bring it to the Board of Commissioners' for approval.  Lancaster City council is also expected to approve this arrangement at their next meeting.

In summation, this arrangement benefits everybody and is an example of the kind of benefits that can come from a good relationship with our neighbors.

Manheim Township Board of Commissioners
