Stream Restoration Projects in Manheim Township

Stream restoration projects here in Manheim Township are a primary initiative being undertaken to clean and restore the Chesapeake Bay. The work will include subtle adjustments to the stream banks and vegetation along with the planting of a wide variety of native herbaceous plugs, grasses, trees and shrubs.

The Township is committed to actively maintaining the restored areas after construction to ensure that the native vegetation being planted is well established in this newly created riparian buffer which is critical to water quality.

These projects are necessary because Manheim Township is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It is required by national and state mandates to clean up streams to reduce the pollutants (sediment, phosphorous, and nitrogen) that flow into the Conestoga River and end up in the Chesapeake Bay.

We recently hosted a tour where residents could see the progress at Jaycee Park, Stoner Park and Overlook Park. Click here (or click on the picture below), to learn more about the tour and the stream restoration projects in Manheim Township.

If you would like to volunteer for upcoming stream restorations, litter clean up, tree plantings and promote recycling and green energy, please email info@manheimtownship.org.
